Evaluation of Final Pieces

I am really happy with my final outcomes fro this project. I feel its my best from not only this project but all projects because usually I would find the obvious beauty in nature and I found my work was very similar to other peoples work, and I believe my final pieces show nature in a different way.

In my final pieces there are many formal elements shown more than others. Colour, is one of the elements which isn't visible. When editing my final piece I did add a slight blue tint to the black and white images because I had tried it out previously and I thought it worked well. Where I have moved the camera upwards there are lines from the change of light. This I think works well. Also because of the changes in light and the length I left the shutter open has created a range of tones. Going upwards the tones get lighter and then move into the lightest tone. The viewer still can see the details of the trees but there is a clear change in tone from where I have moved my camera up. When arranging my images I have thought about lines a lot because I wanted to have them perfectly arranged to contrast the content in the images.

For most of the shoots I used my D3200 Nikon camera with mainly the 8nd filter. I used mainly the 8 nd filter because I mainly went on shoots during the day and I needed to block out some of the light so I could open the shutter up.  Also for all shoots I used Photoshop for: cropping, enhancing features, arranging and a couple others. When editing my final pieces I made sure they were all cropped the same and all were made black and white. The image to the right are the settings I adjusted to make the images slightly blue and I used the same settings for all the images. I found after the first couple of shoots I had worked out what worked and what didn't.

The main thing I wanted to achieve was to get away from the typical nature photos and go more abstract. Also looking at my final pieces they also fit in the category fine art because I believe my work challenges the aesthetics of nature.
Also all the places I shot are places I've been going to since I was little and I waned to view them in a way I haven't before. My final pieces have a dreamy aspect to them and this links to the memories I have of when I was a child.

I am really happy with my final outcome because I believe they are best work from this project. I really with that they work as a series and that there all of treetops of the places I grow up with. I really like that the images are in black and white but with a tint of blue, i feel this works well in a series and doesn't distract from the content of the images.

If I could do my final shoot again I think I would have shot more treetops so I could of had maybe 20 images and displayed them as A4 rather then A3. Overall I am really happy with my final major project.

I did a continuous evaluation for each shoot.

Shoot 7

For this shoot I want to go back to the place I took the tree top images and try out some different ideas and see if this is the idea I want to continue with for my final pieces.
I hope going back will make me more confident with the idea of tree tops.

Equipment needed:
Camera
Extra Battery Pack
ND filters

Doing this shoot has defiantly made me more confident with my disision for my final shoot and pieces. I feel these images show nature and abstract photography and I feel that the idea is a good conclusion for my final project. I really like the movement of these images and the arrangement of the compositions.

When editing I mainly decreased the saturation and adjusted the curves, levels and contrast to enhance the individual images. When editing my final pieces I will have to ensure that the images are cropped in the same way and are all the same size.

Overall I am happy with this shoot and I am ready for my final shoot.

This image is the most abstract image from this shoot and I really think it works however I don't think a collection of images like this will work as well as a collection of images of the image below. I like this image but as a stand alone.

When editing I decreased the saturation but then added a tint of blue and I think it really works well. I think this would be a good thing to try out when editing my final pieces.

This image is the type of image I am aiming for for my final shoot and pieces.
When editing I made the image black and white.

I feel 10 images similar to this image will look really good as a display and as my final pieces.

Shoot 6

In this shoot I want to try all the different ways of moving the camera to try and establish what works best. I feel open space will be the best place to try out all these movements.
Going into this shoot I have mainly stuck to horizontal and vertical movements but I want to make sure these are the best ways to create the images I want.
I hope that this shoot inspires an idea for my final outcomes.

Equipment Needed:
Camera
Extra battery Pack
ND Filters

Looking at the images I have produced I feel that vertical and horizontal movements work the best becuause the other either were unrecognisable as nature or just didn't work with the forms of nature. With my final pieces I want the images to be abstract but also recognisable as nature at the same time and I feel these two movements work the best to achieve this.

When editing I experimented a bit with some of the images but I mainly made them black and white, adjusted the curves, levels and contrast to suit each image.

Looking over the image I am really happy with the images I have produced and I think these images are heading in the right way for my final pieces.

This image is one of my favourite images so fur because I like the layers in the image and the movement. I like that the viewer can tell that the image is of nature but it also has an abstract twist to it.
This is one of the images I experimented with and I did this by playing around with the curves on PhotoShop. I feel this image a dark and ghostly feel to this image and I think it works.

This image is also one of my favourites because I like the fact that the viewer can tell that the image is of a tree but it also shows the top. I left the green from the leaves in the image because I felt it needed some colour because the most part of the images has a very light tone to it.

When editing I only changes the contrast of the image because I wanted to make the tree tops stand out more.

I really like the idea of a series of images of just tree tops and I think I will try this again in my next shoot.
