- Robert Mapplethorpe was born in November 4th 1946 and died March 9th 1989.
- He was an American Photographer.
- He is known for his controversial large-scale, black and white photography.
- His work includes: celebrity portraits, male and female nudes, self-portraits and still-life images of flowers (lilies).
- The contrast created by the harsh light I think works really well in the images of the lilies. The light creates shadows which helps to create depth and tone in the image. I think this image works really well as a black and white image because it makes it look smooth and it helps to highlight the shadows.
- I would think that Robert Mapplethorpe would have been influenced by Ansel Adams who did a series of images of black and white peppers. I think this because both pieces of work are in black and white and have a harsh lighting to create extreme contrast.
- The collection of Calla Lilies consisted of .... images and were of a size of 38.4 x 38.1 cm. (15.1 x 15 in.). They were gelatin silver prints and were done in 1984.
