Shoot 4

This shoot is inspired by the photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto. I want to try and capture subtle tones in nature. I will do this by setting the shutter speed to 1 second and an ND filter over the lens. When editing I will lower the saturation because Hiroshi Sugimoto's has black and white images which I think work really well. I also this type of images would work well as a series.
All of the previous shoots I have relied on the colour in the images and I hope this shoot shows something different. I hope I get roughly 8 images which work well as a collection.

Equipment Needed:
Camera
Extra Battery pack
ND filters

Looking back at Hiroshi Sugimoto work and comparing his to mine, I am really happy with the outcome. I wanted to create atmospheric images in black and white and I believe I have done this. On the shoot I wasn't sure if the idea of moving the camera quickly along a horizon would work but doing this shoot has shown it has. I really like the subtle changes in tones in the images and that most of the images I have edited have characteristics of other landscapes, for example: mountains, the sea and the sky.
I experimented with different speeds in which I moved the camera but I didn't change the shutter speed because increasing it would allow to much light in.

When editing I changed the saturation down so the image was in black and white because the colour in the images were only subtle and I felt the the colour was distracting from the images. I also played around with levels, curves and contrast on Photoshop to make the image more subtle or intense (depending on the image).

Overall I am really happy with this shoot because the images I got are better then I expected them to be and I think they work well as a series.
This image is my favorite because it has a range of tones and shades. Also this image looks like the sea and land even though the actual content is a lake and forest.
When editing I enhanced the contrast to make more of a range of tones.
This image is part of a series because all of them are similar and I feel they work well together.

This image dosn't look like a landscape like most of the other images because the changes in tones are very subtle. However this image does look more like the sea and the horizon, like Hiroshi Sugimoto seascapes.
When editing I didn't change the contrast as much as the image above because I feel it doesn't need to be as intense.
In my next shoot I want to just play around with this technique and also to create a similar atmosphere to the images above.

Shoot 3

In this shoot I want to go back to the shoot in the previous project where I played around with the shutter speed and ND Filters. I wanted to do this because I really like the outcomes and I think this could allow me to develop this ideas further, also in that shoot it was cold and there weren't any leaves on the trees and now there are and I feel the green will create a new effect.  Colour is still going to be the main part of this shoot and this differs from the other shoot. Also Mark Raymond Mason's work has the type of affect I would like to achieve.

The image below is an image I took from the last project.

Equipment Needed:
Camera
Extra battery pack
ND filters

Experimenting with borders

Looking back at my intentions for this shoot I am happy with the outcome. Drawing from a previous shoot, I created a new series of images were I explored blur. From the previous shoot in the other project I found moving the camera in the direction of the trees worked the best so this is what I focused on. I feel the green element with the blue creates a new blend of tones and makes the colours more prominent in the images.

When editing I enhanced the colours slightly and tried out a range of different crops. I found a thick white border worked the best because it frames the picture but doesn't take anything away from the content of the image. I think I might try and crop a series of images in a square because this worked well and I want to see the images as a collection.

Overall I am happy that I went back and extended a previous shoot and I feel I have produced some new and different images.

I am happy with this image because I feel sections of this image would look good cropped and I feel the blur aspect of this image is just enough to abstract the image but not too much that it is unrecognizable.
When editing this image I just enhanced the colour. I will go back to this edit and crop. I feel this will work in a square.

This shot is the most abstract and I feel it works really well. I like the that me moving the camera has created a brushstroke effect on the image. The blues and greens blend well together and I feel this could also work in a square crop. This image I feel has aspects of Mark Raymond Masons work because of the leaves and the blur but I have kept the colour because I feel this adds to the image.

Extended Edits

I feel the square crop really worked well for these types of shots because they look like samples of something. I'm really happy with this shoot.

In my next shoot I think I am going to take inspiration from  Hiroshi Sugimoto seascapes because I really like the simplicity to them and the atmosphere the images create. These types of images I feel work really well as a series.
