All of the previous shoots I have relied on the colour in the images and I hope this shoot shows something different. I hope I get roughly 8 images which work well as a collection.
Equipment Needed:
Camera
Extra Battery pack
ND filters
Series
Others
Looking back at Hiroshi Sugimoto work and comparing his to mine, I am really happy with the outcome. I wanted to create atmospheric images in black and white and I believe I have done this. On the shoot I wasn't sure if the idea of moving the camera quickly along a horizon would work but doing this shoot has shown it has. I really like the subtle changes in tones in the images and that most of the images I have edited have characteristics of other landscapes, for example: mountains, the sea and the sky.
I experimented with different speeds in which I moved the camera but I didn't change the shutter speed because increasing it would allow to much light in.
When editing I changed the saturation down so the image was in black and white because the colour in the images were only subtle and I felt the the colour was distracting from the images. I also played around with levels, curves and contrast on Photoshop to make the image more subtle or intense (depending on the image).
Overall I am really happy with this shoot because the images I got are better then I expected them to be and I think they work well as a series.
This image is my favorite because it has a range of tones and shades. Also this image looks like the sea and land even though the actual content is a lake and forest. When editing I enhanced the contrast to make more of a range of tones.
This image is part of a series because all of them are similar and I feel they work well together.
This image dosn't look like a landscape like most of the other images because the changes in tones are very subtle. However this image does look more like the sea and the horizon, like Hiroshi Sugimoto seascapes.
When editing I didn't change the contrast as much as the image above because I feel it doesn't need to be as intense.
In my next shoot I want to just play around with this technique and also to create a similar atmosphere to the images above.
